Business Climate

Chatham County is transitioning from a largely rural community, with an agricultural and manufacturing heritage, to the preferred location for emerging growth companies. Currently, Chatham County is the 12th fastest growing county in North Carolina. The EDC works continuously with the towns and county officials to balance Chatham County’s unprecedented residential growth with increased economic opportunity for residents and the local business community.

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners are committed to supporting sustainable long-term economic development for Chatham’s citizens; they commissioned the forward-thinking Strategic Economic Development Plan to target new opportunities for economic growth and to attract good paying jobs in fast-growing industries. The towns of Goldston, Pittsboro, and Siler City all back Chatham County’s economic vision; each town adopted the Strategic Plan and works diligently with the EDC to support and encourage business growth in their communities.

With a large population of highly educated, skilled residents and over 15,000 medium and high end residential units approved for future expansion, Chatham County is poised and ready for North Carolina’s economic recovery. The growing residential population makes Chatham County a prime location for ventures that are looking for new local markets and want to invest in a growing local economy. Chatham County is also the ideal place for businesses with diverse workforce needs and companies seeking a high quality of life for their employees.

The EDC works regularly with all types of businesses– start-ups, relocating, and expanding – to assess how Chatham County can meet their needs. If your business is thinking about starting up, relocating, or expanding in Chatham County, the Business Climate section provides essential economic planning resources, including:
